The Product
Barrier Protection of Florida LLC manufactures patented sandless, self-inflating barrier bags that eliminate the need for sand, shovels, and heavy equipment.
How activation works: Connect ordinary tap water to the integrated self-sealing valve. Each bag fills and becomes deployment-ready in approximately 50 seconds. No sand, no shovels, no waiting for polymer gel to expand.
See It In Action
Watch how Barrier Protection bags deploy and why they represent a better approach for emergency management, government, and critical infrastructure.
An overview of our patented sandless, self-inflating barrier bags — the only 100% recyclable and biodegradable solution of its kind, engineered for rapid flood and storm protection.
Building a barrier has never been so effortless. See the rapid ~50-second activation with ordinary tap water — no sand, shovels, or heavy equipment required.
These videos are from the original Barrier Protection site. The spoken narratives remain the same. For a fully refreshed visual version with updated presenters and backgrounds, the original video files or transcripts would be needed so new versions can be produced.
Why It Matters
Designed from the ground up to solve the real operational, environmental, and logistical problems of traditional sandbags — and the limitations of most “sandless” alternatives.
With traditional sandbags you fill them one at a time, load heavy 40–50 lb bags into your car, drive them home, stack them… and often the storm never hits your area. You’re left with a pile of wet, dirty bags and wasted effort. Our bags stay light and compact for years. Activate them only if you need them.
Integrated self-sealing valve achieves approximately 50-second inflation. Overcomes the multi-hour hydration limitations of earlier self-inflating designs. No sand, shovels, or heavy equipment required.
100% recyclable and biodegradable. Most competing sandless bags end up in the trash or tell you to “spread the gel on your lawn.” We are developing a patented recycling pathway so the bags themselves do not simply become tomorrow’s landfill waste.
One tractor-trailer load of Barrier Protection bags provides protection equivalent to approximately 83 loads of traditional sandbags — dramatically reducing transportation, storage, and responder burden.
Vacuum-sealed in 6-mil packaging for indoor storage away from sunlight. Buy once and remain protected for a decade — far exceeding the typical 10-month usability of conventional sandbags and the three-year maximum of many competitors.
Engineered as the only polymer-based bag of its type for reliable performance in saltwater environments — critical for Florida coastal and storm-surge applications.
U.S. Utility Patent No. 12,463,632 B2 (issued Nov 4, 2025). Technology refined since 2011. Active SAM registration (UEI: VGU7HTA3BGV4, CAGE: 185R7). Demonstrated to governors, senators, congressmen, and emergency management personnel.
| Capability | Traditional Sandbags | Barrier Protection |
|---|---|---|
| Activation / Setup | Hours of labor, sand, shovels | ~50 seconds with tap water |
| Dry Weight | Heavy (pre-filled or bulk sand) | ~16 oz |
| Shelf Life | Often ~10 months | 10-year warranty |
| Logistics | 1 trailer = 1 load | 1 trailer ≈ 83 traditional loads |
| End of Life | Landfill for 100+ years; high tipping fees | 100% recyclable & biodegradable (~1/50 volume) |
| Saltwater | Limited / variable | Engineered for reliable saltwater use |
After a 2009 Broward County storm, sandbag tipping fees alone exceeded $300,000. Our approach dramatically reduces both cost and long-term environmental burden.
Traditional process: fill one bag at a time → haul heavy bags home → stack them → storm often misses → leftover mess. Barrier Protection: store light for years, activate only if needed, and move toward true recyclability.
Traditional Sandbags vs. Barrier Protection
93 Tractor Trailers (55,800 bags) = 1 of Our Semi-Trucks (56,160 bags)
4 Tractor Trailers (2,400 bags) = 1 Pickup Truck (2,160 bags)
Quick Home Planning
Most homes only need 12–18 inches of protection. Each bag expands to 24" × 14" × 6" high when hydrated with ~6 gallons of water. Stack bags to achieve the height you need.
Ready-to-order quantities for common openings are shown below. Larger government and commercial orders available on the Order page.
Small quantities welcome for pilots and property protection. Larger agency orders supported.
Enter your own measurements for a more precise estimate.
Estimates assume a single or double row of bags for residential use. Add 10–20% extra for corners, overlaps, and safety. Most homes never need more than 18 inches of protection.
About Us
Barrier Protection of Florida LLC is a Florida-based, fully U.S.-owned, woman-owned small business dedicated to advancing innovative flood and disaster protection solutions. Carol Seifried serves as President and CEO; Steven Glodack serves as Founder and Vice President.
The core technology concept originated in 2011 under the prior entity Water Defense. After earlier patent paths faced significant challenges, the team persisted, refined the integrated self-sealing valve approach, and secured U.S. Utility Patent No. 12,463,632 B2 (issued November 4, 2025).
We currently operate a manufacturing facility in Davie, Florida, and are preparing to open new sites in Forked River, New Jersey, and South Florida. Once operational, these facilities will support production of 1.5 to 2 million bags per month to meet large-scale needs. We emphasize American labor and a secure domestic supply chain.
